Tummy Tuck

Our Clinical Practice in Tummy Tuck

In our practice, we require a routine pre-operative health check-up a day before the surgery to exclude serious underlying medical illness that may cause some complications during or after the operation. To achieve the best result, good patient - doctor communication is the key. Your plastic surgeon will perform a physical examination and assessed your skin tone, degree of loose skin in the abdominal region and evaluate the amount of excess fat in your abdomen and the condition of your abdominal muscles.

Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is considered in good candidates who have loose and flabby abdominal muscle and skin that cannot regain its normal tone. Your doctor will discuss about your limitations and expectations and you can freely ask any concerns you have. You will then decide together with your plastic surgeon whether you are a good candidate for tummy tuck procedure.

Tummy Tuck is a major plastic surgery operation done under general anesthetics in our affiliated hospitals in Phuket, not at the clinic. It is not used as a substitute for weight reduction. You will be expected to stay in the hospital’s private room for at least 5 days. Full payments of the tummy tuck package must be paid before the operation.

Get Educated in Abdominoplasty

The Procedure: Abdominoplasty also known as the "tummy tuck" is an operation performed to treat extremely loose and flabby abdominal skin and muscle, usually following massive weight gain and weight loss. Abdominoplasty can be helpful when diet and exercise failed to correct severe muscle weakness which may occur after multiple pregnancies.

There are several types of abdominoplasty ranging from a minor removal of hanging skin to a major abdominal repair where the entire abdomen is tightened. It is designed to remove only as much excess skin and fatty tissue as is practical and safe. Abdominoplasty will enhance your body contour by making your abdomen firmer and flatter. Stretch marks when confined in the area of resection can be removed along with the excess skin.

The Incision Site: In tummy tuck operation, a horizontal incision is placed just within or above the pubic area. The length of the incision, which extends laterally toward the pelvic bones, depends largely on the amount of skin to be removed. Your plastic surgeon will try to keep the incision within your bathing suit lines; however, this may not always be possible. When there is loose skin above the navel, the surgeon may make a second incision around the navel to pull the skin downward then remove the excess skin. To tighten the abdominal wall, the surgeon brings loose underlying tissue and muscle together with sutures.

The Long Term Outcome of Tummy Tuck

It is highly recommended for patients to stay in Phuket or nearby places for at least 10-14 days because tummy tuck surgery is an aesthetic reconstructive procedure rather than purely aesthetics. Since this is a complex operation requiring highly technical skills which have variable presentations in each patient with high chances of developing early post-operative complications, it would be beneficial when our surgeon could closely follow-up and monitor your recovery while you’re still in Phuket. There are no promises for the results as the outcome varies in each individual patient and it will take many months to see the result. In the event that the patient requires additional operations, there will be no doctor’s fee; however, the patient must pay for the operating room charges, anesthesia and hospital fee.

Like any surgical procedure, tummy tuck is also associated with certain number of risks and complications despite maximum care. Possible complications include bleeding, infection, wound separation and delayed healing. Our Team takes every precaution possible to prevent and minimize the risks of surgery. However, much of the responsibility for risk avoidance rests with you as well.
